For Sun Ra | Orbital 3 (Chapter 3)

Solstice: Orbital 3 is a continuation of the For Sun Ra series, intentionally centring the cultural origins of REMUSE Designs through Afrofuturism inspired by Sun Ra, and exploring the ways cosmic landscapes can inspire marginalised communities to imagine new possibilities for body, identity, and self. As the realities of space travel move closer to our doorstep, the collection considers how, in our cosmic dreaming and creation of otherworldly yet wearable garments, we can remain mindful and accountable to the planet we inhabit  - Planet Earth.

The third chapter of four, and the 10th anniversary Solstice shoot, Orbital 3 draws inspiration from Afrofuturism, biomimicry, and cosmic landscapes through the language of adaptive, gender-neutral femme sustainable fashion. The shoot revisits the stone-washed backdrop of the original series, while retaining visual references to the ocean foam crashing against the iconic cliffs of our very first shoot at Half Moon Bay in 2016. In doing so, the collection creates a dialogue between memory and futurity, while setting the stage for the REMUSE Designs 10th anniversary show to return to this same location in 2027.
